How to get a life and health insurance license in Idaho
Last updated
The steps to become a licensed life or accident and health insurance producer in Idaho, from Pearson VUE's Idaho candidate handbook, the Idaho Department of Insurance and the Idaho Code.
The steps
- Study for the exam. Each exam has 50 general questions and 25 on Idaho law. See the exam guide.
- Schedule and pass the exam with Pearson VUE. Test at a Pearson VUE test center or online with OnVUE, in English or Spanish. You do not need approval from the state to take the exam.
- Fingerprints. Idaho Code 41-1007 requires that the applicant "Has submitted the applicant’s fingerprints as may be required by the director"; the handbook says fingerprints are valid for six months.
- Apply for the license within 180 days. Idaho Code 41-1006(4): "Applications for licensure not received by the department within one hundred eighty (180) days of the successful completion of the examination shall be denied."
Good to know
- Retakes: 24 hours after your last attempt, with no limit on attempts. If you fail only the general or only the state section, you retake just that section.
- Passing score: the handbook does not state one.
