Idaho insurance exam pass rates
Last updated
The Idaho Department of Insurance publishes a "Portion Pass Report (First Time Only)" for its licensing exams. [1] [2] [3] These are first-time results, split into the general knowledge portion and the Idaho specific portion of each exam. The newest year the Department has posted is 2021, before the current content outline took effect on July 31, 2025. [1] [4] Below are the figures for the Life Producer and Disability/Health Producer exams for 2019, 2020 and 2021, exactly as the Department printed them.

What the numbers show
- First-time portion pass rates ranged from 52.81% to 73.56%. The lowest is Disability/Health general knowledge in 2021; the highest is Disability/Health Idaho specific in 2019. No portion in these tables reached 75%.
- 2021 was the lowest year for both exams in these three reports.
- Neither portion is consistently the easy one. On the Life exam, the Idaho portion pass rate was lower than the general portion in 2021 and 2020, and higher in 2019. On the Disability/Health exam, the Idaho portion pass rate was higher than the general portion in all three years.
These are the Department's figures. They count first attempts only, and they are from before the current outline, so they describe past candidates, not how any one person will do.
Why the portion split matters
Pearson VUE's Idaho handbook explains that each exam has a general section and a state section, and "Candidates who pass one section of the examination and fail the other need to retake the portion they did not pass." [5] A candidate who fails gets "a numeric score and diagnostic information relating to the general portion of the examination." [5] So plan to be ready for both portions on the first try. If you do need a retake, the handbook says you can retest 24 hours after your last attempt, and there is no limit on the number of attempts. [5]
