Idaho insurance exam study guide
Last updated
Idaho gives separate Life and Accident & Health producer exams through Pearson VUE. [1] Each one has 75 scored questions: 50 on general knowledge and 25 on Idaho law, plus pretest questions that are not scored. [2] This guide turns the outline into a study order and points out the rules that change how you should prepare. For the full topic lists, see our Idaho life outline and Idaho health outline pages.
Where the points are
| Part | Life exam | A&H exam |

| General knowledge | 50 scored (I 15, II 15, III 12, IV 8) | 50 scored (I 16, II 15, III 6, IV 5, V 8) |
| Idaho law, all lines | 12 | 12 |
| Idaho law, life and health/disability only | 3 | 3 |
| Idaho law, your line only | 10 | 10 |
Source for all counts: the Pearson VUE Idaho content outline. [2] The Life general sections are types of policies; provisions, riders, options and exclusions; the application, underwriting and delivery; and retirement and other concepts. The A&H general sections are types of policies; policy provisions, clauses and riders; social insurance; other insurance concepts; and field underwriting. [2]
Why the two parts matter
The handbook says each exam has a general section and a state section, and "Candidates who pass one section of the examination and fail the other need to retake the portion they did not pass." [1] So a weak spot in Idaho law cannot be covered up by a strong general score. Plan your time so both parts are solid.
A study order that follows the weights
- Week 1: the two biggest general sections. On Life, types of policies and policy provisions are 30 of the 50 general questions. On A&H, types of policies and policy provisions are 31 of 50. [2]
- Week 2: Idaho all-lines law (12 questions). This block is the same on both exams: the director's powers, definitions, licensing, producer duties, insurance contracts and marketing practices. [2] Our Idaho licensing law questions and Idaho unfair trade practices questions pages cover it.
- Week 3: your line's Idaho law (10 questions) plus the shared 3. For Life: replacement, annuities, individual life and group life. For A&H: policy provisions, AD&D, disclosure, Medicare supplement, long term care, small employer and individual availability acts, disability income and external review. Both exams add credit insurance, the guaranty association and assignment. [2] See our Idaho life law and Idaho health law pages.
- Week 4: the smaller general sections, then mixed timed practice.

How to know you are ready
- You can name the Idaho time limits above without looking.
- You score well on timed practice in both the general and Idaho parts separately, since each part is passed or failed on its own.
- You can explain why each wrong answer is wrong, not just pick the right one.
FAQ
Is there one combined Life and Health exam in Idaho?
No combined exam is listed in the handbook; each line has its own exam. [1]
Do I need pre-licensing education first?
The Idaho statute on producer license applications lists age, fingerprints, fees and passing the exam, and names no education step. [10]
Start with the free Idaho life practice test or the Idaho accident and health practice test.
Prep Retention is independent and is not affiliated with Pearson VUE or the state.
