Taking the Idaho insurance exam with Pearson VUE
Last updated
Pearson VUE gives Idaho's insurance licensing exams. The Idaho Department of Insurance says, "Idaho has partnered with Pearson Vue to provide these services," and it also routes fingerprinting through Pearson VUE. [1] Here is how booking, test day and retakes work for the Life and Accident and Health producer exams.
Which exam to book
The handbook lists four Life and Accident and Health exams: [2]
| Exam | Code | Time |
|---|---|---|
| ID Life Producer | InsID-Life0001 | 120 minutes |
| ID Life Producer (Spanish) | SPID-Life0001 | 120 minutes |
| ID Accident & Health or Sickness Producer | InsID-AH0002 | 120 minutes |
| ID Accident & Health or Sickness Producer (Spanish) | SPID-AH0002 | 120 minutes |
Life and Accident and Health are separate exams. Pearson's booking site shows the Accident and Health exam as "Idaho Disability/Health Producer," so don't let the different name throw you. [2][3]
How to book
- Online: through Pearson VUE's Idaho insurance page, where you create an account, log in and pick your exam. [4]
- Phone: 800-274-2721, toll-free. [4]
- No state sign-off first. The handbook says, "You do not require approval from the State of Idaho to take the examination." [2]
- Pay when you book. The fee is $65 per exam, by credit card, debit card or voucher. Fees are not accepted at the test center. [2]
How far ahead you have to book
The sources differ, so plan for the longer window:
- Handbook: online reservations at least 48 hours ahead; phone reservations at least 24 hours ahead. [2]
- Pearson's Idaho page (updated 2026-05-26): "Appointments may be made up to one calendar day prior to the day you wish to test, subject to availability." [4]
To change or cancel without penalty, the handbook says to do it at least 48 hours before the exam. Walk-in exams are not available. [2]
Test center or online
Test center. The handbook lists Pearson VUE test centers in Boise, Coeur d'Alene, Nampa, Post Falls, Pocatello, Twin Falls, Idaho Falls and Lewiston, and says candidates may test at any Pearson VUE test center in the US. [2]
Online with OnVUE. When we checked Pearson's booking site on 2026-10-14, the English Life and Accident and Health exams each offered "In-person at a test center" and "Online with OnVUE." [3] The handbook lists what you need: [2]
- a quiet, private location
- a reliable device with a webcam
- a strong internet connection
The handbook also says there are no unscheduled breaks in an OnVUE exam. [2]
Fingerprints go through Pearson VUE too
Idaho requires fingerprints from resident license applicants for a background check, and the Department of Insurance uses Pearson VUE to collect them. [1]
- Electronic: book the appointment called "InsID-FPELC" through Pearson VUE and pay a non-refundable $65 processing fee when you book. It is taken at listed Pearson VUE locations, including Boise and Pocatello. [1]
- Hard card: have prints taken at a law enforcement office, book "InsID-FPHC" through Pearson VUE, pay the non-refundable processing fee when you book, and mail the card and payment confirmation to the address on the Department's page. Pearson VUE needs to receive the card within 5 days of the appointment date you pick. Do not send the card to the Department. [1]
- Fingerprints are valid for six months. [2]
After the exam
- Your score report says pass or fail. A failing report adds a numeric score and diagnostic information on the general part. [5]
- Each exam has a general section and a state section. If you pass one and fail the other, you retake only the part you failed. [2]
- You can retake 24 hours after your last attempt, with no limit on attempts. [2]
- Results are valid for 180 days. Idaho Code 41-1006(4) says applications not received within 180 days of passing "shall be denied." [2][6]
